21 January 2011: Econsave Supermarket Petani Jaya On Fire

The North Wind season started and the weather become so dry and hot. First fire call was at 3pm something about forest fire, my team didn’t respond as teams at that town don’t need help. Back to home, face the PC until 4.50pm comes another call that reporting a supermarket fire. Sounds like a serious one.

Depart from the station after enough of crews. I get the front seat. It’s really got me mad at every junction. Those idiots really don’t stop and give away to emergency vehicle. When we got there, the governments and the town volunteer’s fire teams were already there. I don’t see any fire but the smoke is heavy. This time, I don’t run the attack line but helps in set up the thing. Without B.A. all we can do is spray the water to the top of building where the smoke comes out from outside of building.

Due to the height of burning area, the government gets their ladder truck to assist in this operation. Second time for me to see ladder truck on fire ground. After half hour, the government’s fire team start to break and attack the store which is burning. Then, we use high pressure water spray into it. This had taken us about two hours to pull it off. I walk around the fire ground and in my mind was: Damn, lot of fire trucks and teams. Government’s two tenders and a ladder together with seventeen trucks from volunteer’s fire team around Kedah state and Penang state made up to twenty fire trucks.

Again we respond to same place by next morning at around 1am as there is smoking out again. But it isn’t serious so government crews is taken care it.

First of 2011, 16 January 2011: Bt Dua, Sg Petani House Fire

Wake up kind of early today, 10am then get one of my favorite breakfast, "Wan Tan Mee". After the breakfast and get back to front of my laptop, my CRSM device calling and said : "Batu Dua there seems got house fire!" I quickly get my stuff and leave to meeting spot. But too bad, the truck leaving so I have to go myself together with another one that late. This is first call in 2011 I'm responding.

It's kind of mad to rush on the street without siren. Quick and carefully bypass every junction, then reach there quite late already and fire been controlled. So I'm almost doing nothing until my teammates ask for substitute at front line. So I've replaced him and continue spray to reduce heat that hidden. Government operation leader came to me and ask me go inside the building to avoid wasting of water, then does I. This operation end after water of second volunteer squad that support us run out. Four wooden terrace houses totally destroyed. The village is packed with fire trucks from numerous fire squads, around 11.

22 November 2010 : Tmn Ria Jaya Industrial Park, Factory Fire at 5.30am

After so long of peaceful, finally it's come. 5.30am, after being wake of noiseness, then come the second one, a call to standby from CRSM device. This is damn early of morning. What I know there is fire at Taman Ria Jaya, but not sure until middle of way in truck. My teammate told me is factory fire and confirm is serious one by some teammates which got there earlier.

I'm keep looking for smokes and fire sign on the sky while approaching the fireground and I'm found nothing so I'm thought again it's been pulled off. While reaching the scene, I saw few gov FRD trucks were there already, and I look at my left hand side, and "Oh shit! It's serious one" in my mind. Quickly get off the truck and start working. But be honest, I'm quite messy after so long of inactive and quite scared the factory will blows.

My crews run the first line then I come with the second one into the fireground corporate with other teams to "chill" the fire". It's pretty hard since it's "huge". The gov crews break into it for more effective extinguishing job. However it successfully get under-controlled about half hour. And at the mean time, my line was discharged, then I went off the ground and check out the outside. It's packed with fire trucks. We finish our operation when the sun light is coming out, around 7am and get home by 8am after some drink with other team. It's a tired day, I'm only slept for 2 hours and then got to leave for my class by 11am till 6pm.

17 September 2010 : Taman Bandar Baru, Sg Petani Shop Houses

I was Facebook-ing, suddenly the PTT device comes with a weird message " Listen to channel one of CRSM device". Then I turn to channel one as well to see what happen. Oppsss, it is reporting a live fire, then get off to the truck when it said "Huge fire, huge fire". And the CRSM crews keep asking "Semeling Bomba, are you guys getting off?" "Should be a big case" in my mind.

Before we reach there again it's been covered by gov FRD. After I check the fireground, it doesn't that serious as I'm expected. A tow truck and a car is affected, and little affection on the door of the shop houses.

03 October 2010: Taman Orkid, Sg Petani, Python Catching

As a voluntary fire squad, we're not only offer fire extinguisher services but also offer some special services such as snake catching. This night, I'm actually reach home after hang out at our fire station and prepare to sleep, but the CRSM device stop me. a crew asking our help to catch a python at his house which rented to some teachers and he claim that python is "not small".

I'm kind of like snake so I be there for the operation. After get all necessary gear on our small truck (special ops vehicle) then we went for it.  While reach there and check it, that so-called "not small" thing hiding in the grass and just showing it's head, yup, it's not "not small", it is huge. I'm expecting 8-9 foots, Our snake catching captain carefully tighten its head with special gear, then he pull it out. "DAMN!!!" in my mind when the real body of the snake is appeared. It's really huge, more than my expectation. Since we all first time meet this huge creature, so is kind of messy until it being pulled to a wider place.

After packed it, we bring back to our fire station. This huge thing got measured, 13 foots. LOL. It's really huge. This the largest wild snake i've seen so far.

11 August 2010 : Jalan K.Ketil, Sg Petani

I think this should be second day of Muslim celebration of Hari Raya Puasa, a call through CRSM device saying house fire at Jalan Kuala Ketil. Me and my crews quickly get off to it due to it's house fire. However while we almost reach, the fire was successfully pulled off by gov FRD. It's kind of pity to the Malay owner of the house. It's happen during their celebration.

31 July 2010 : Laguna Merbok Cars Fire

A wake up call for my sweet dream by around 6am, call is telling : " Bomba Semeling standby, standby, a report said there is house fire at Laguna Merbok". "Oh god, it is house fire" in my mind. Get all my gears then run to out off the house like usual in messy way. While reach the meeting spot, not even got time to suit up my uniform until get into the truck and change in the middle of way.

Kind of nervous because we might be the first team reach there, however, while we are there, government FRD already there and get the fire out. And it's just burnt the vehicles in front of the house and little affect at front.  So we just check out a while before leave for early breakfast.

20 July 2010: Dongwha Fibreboard Factory Fire

As I could remember, I was fall asleep by 8am something. But by 10am, there is waking call yelling : "Semeling Bomba!! Semeling Bomba!!" I'm awake and wonder what had happen then I made a call to my capt but so nice my hand phone is broken again. Can't do anything until further information told that "Merbok fibreboard factory on fire!!" Hmm... I was just "Shit" cause I just been slept less than 2 hrs. It gonna be sucks.

I missed the ride of fire truck so gotta get there by my olskol. Get the hazard signal on then push it all the way. In the middle the smoke can be seen but seems not really serious. When I get there, the guard informed me that my team and Merbok VFD are reached but I can't get my car inside. So I decided to wait for SP VFD, but I change my mind after the SP FD reached with their Mercedes Trucks. I walk inside and it damn far.

While I reach the scene, my team are doing the job. My capt yell on me: "Get your helmet and jacket and up here". It's about two storey height, I asked my teammate where to get up, and he pointed a ladder and said :"Here" Hmm... In my mind was :"Cool but shit" It's a 90 degree up typical factory ladder and I have to climb it with my heavy boots, jacket and helmet. But when reach the top it was pretty cool cause the scene. Haha. I was assigned to assist my teammate who doing the dangerous job. I have to help to hold the heavy hose for him. It is two storey high, mistake can lead to fall to the ground. It almost due to unstable of water pressure and so luckily is not. When there is not sufficient of water then we get down for ground "battle".

My teammate pass the nozzle to me and tell me:" It's time for you to have fun". Hell not, is a tired job rather than fun. Some more the dusk is damn heavy and make my cough worst but luckily the factory staff take us face mask after . But I took it cause he had it for quite long time already. I take it till I'm exhausted and ask for substitution. It takes 2 hrs plus to complete the mission, it's tough but a nice experience. There was several small flash-over.

16 July 2010: Simpang Empat, Kedah Shophouses On Fire

It's a late night after had coffee session with my coffee kaki, then change table to with my fire team teammates at our favorite malay stall called Panjang (since 7 years ago). While we talking about fire stuff, my friend walkie-talkie on call, "Simpang Empat house fire, just started". We are thinking which Simpang Empat since there is few places called the same name. When VFD of Guar Cempedak being asked for support then I run home to take my PPE then run to our new fire station. Few members was there already.

Since there is quite far from us, then I make a call to our captain for the permission. He approved and at the same time they reporting the fire is big one and support needed. Then we departed. It takes us about 35 mins to reach the fire scene. When we reach there we can see a lot of fire trucks there and few on their ways. After 15 mins being there, the fire was under-controlled. Then we collect our hoses and pumps.

Just after the pump located correctly on the trucks, there is another call of fire which happen at Sg Lalang. Oh God!! After throw (they really throw due to rush) all hoses on trucks, we departed again immediately together with few fire trucks which belong VFD from Central Kedah. When almost reach, VFD which already there told the fire is covered and not a big deal, just cable burnt. Then we stop at roadside for out supper before heading home.

28 June 2010: Bakar Arang Light Industry Factory Fire

I was slept quite early tonight by 12am, but end up awake at 2.15am. Due to hungry I guess. Then I took my dad oldskool to a malay stall searching for any foods. When I reached there, I found that a teammate was there alone and watching the FIFA World Cup 2010. Yup, Argentina Vs Mexico that night. I ordered a Milo panas then get a seat with him.

After 20 mins non of score yet, but my PTT device is calling, and is Bomba Kedah channel. Somewhere must be on fire. And that time Argentina scored the first goal. I'm not sure then I reconfirm the location and they replied: " Wood factory behind the Bakar Arang Longwan on fire, and was reported is huge one". We quickly paid the pay bill, call all teammate to standby through our team channel, call my asst capt then run to the fire engine. Once get enough teammate we get depart.

While after couple KMs after get in to Western Bypass, I can see the black smoke already, but not sure. When getting nearer, and it's confirm is a big and long one. Once reached there, we got the hydrant. When I run to the scene, I just Oh God, it just beside where I previously work, a luxury car workshop. After I run back to the engine get something and back to the scene again the fire is crossing, I thought that workshop belong to my friend, Jackson (ex-boss) is gone until a friend, Thomas came in corrected me that Jackson's one is beside and alright.

When the fire was controlled, then I walk to there. His shop is not affected and his beemers are alright as well. I told him "U are damn lucky, cause the fire can be stopped. " After all, me, my team, and other friend teams headed to Nasi Kandar for a refresh drink till 5am. It was a exhausted and "stim" night since so long never had such operation.

By the evening, I was lying on the bed, then the CRSM walkie-talkie is calling: "601 calling 620, 610 calling 620, there is report of fire in Taman Kuala Muda, and MB Bomba please responding". Maybe been so long didn't out for duty, I'm so nervous until forgot get my cloth out. When up on the fire engine, I just use the fire jacket to cover me. XD

The siren is blowing all the way. But when we reach there, the fire had been covered by government FD. So we not doing anything. The house almost totally destroyed, and its only one affected. Luckily there is no injury or dead. Kind of pity the residents, crying non-stop. After sometime, then we move back.

24 May 2010 : Bedong Recycle Factory on Fire...

After been a mentally torture session since 9am after 3 hours nap, finally I gave up to continue because it make no sense. Because of my "last-min" behavior, yup, I deserve it. I rushing my assignments without take breakfast and two "kuih" made by my mom as lunch (coz it very easy to eat when rush on time". By 4.15pm, I just settled references for 1 of 3 HRM reports. Fed up and give up. Nobody to blame but myself. Then I go for a shower and ready to out to down for some businesses. After shower, I called my friend to borrow his bike, and he asked : "Is't need for responding fire?" I answered:"Huh? Fire? what fire?" then I listen loud sound of siren. Then I asked him:" Our fire engine responding?" He answered yes. Then my CRSM walkie-talkie is calling, "More people needed, the fire is huge and hard to cover, location Bedong, just after the police station" What in my mind was : "Again?!"

My very nice friend bring his bike till my house, then let me ride to the fire scene. In the middle of way, I can see the mass black smoke going up to the sky. I was thinking: " OMG! Another nightmare for Bedong?!" When I reached there, our engines is pumping river water and support to the frontline. And many VFD engines were there as well. Then I ride deep into it. Just drop off my tension, is not a danger fire, is recycle factory fire which burning the wastage. However all fire teams is putting best effort to control the fire to avoid it getting worse.

By about less than half hour, the fire getting under-controlled. Luckily no peoples hurt and didn't cause the massive lost and lost of accommodation to public citizen.
